When and where is this cancer ride? How much is it to ride? Does it support any particular type of cancer research? My wife just passed away from metastatic melanoma a few days ago. There are no fund raisers that I have found for Melanoma.

We Ride next weekend in Maryland for the Susan G. Koman foundation. Starting in Columbia Maryland and riding to Ocean City. I have personally raised almost $5000.00 for the cause and look forward to one day totally eliminating this horrible diease.

My prayers are with those who are suffering and I pray that one day there will be no more.
God Bless you all.

I just want to let anyone and everyone know, my prayers and thoughts are with you all who are suffering this senseless disease, and those who are care-takers.
I'm a survivor of ovarian cancer stage 3, I've been in remission for 2 years. What a battle! I know the emotions that are involved. Just thinking about it I'm getting an anxiety attack, it's all to familiar to me.
Reach for hope and embrace it,making it your own. I feel this is what go me through it, plus a positive attitude. I send my love to you all.

Hey Kin Just be there when ever what ever thats all you can do, be her strengthbecause that's what she will need the most.
I've included a little something I posted on the daily bread thread. hope it helps.

BORROW MINE
~~~~~~~~~~
Take my hand and walk with me a while Cause it seems your smile has left you
And don't give in, when you fall apart And your broken heart has failed you
I'll set a light up On a hilltop To show you my love For this world to see
You can borrow mine When your hope is gone Borrow mine When you can't go on
Cause the world will not defeat you When we're side by side when your faith is hard to
find You can borrow mine
Take my love when all that you can see Is the raging sea all around us
And don't give up 'cause I'm not letting go And the God we know will not fail us
We'll lay it all down As we call out Sweet Savior help our unbelief
You can borrow mine When your hope is gone Borrow mine When you can't go on
'Cause the world will not defeat you When we're side by side When your faith is hard to
find You can borrow mine
When you are weak, Unable to speak, You are not alone. The God who has saved us
Will never forsake us, he's coming to take us Take us to our home
You can borrow mine When your hope is gone Borrow mine When you can't go on
'Cause the world will not defeat you When we're side by side, When your faith is hard to
find, When your faith is hard to find You can borrow mine
Take my hand Take my love Don't give in Don't give up
For those of you that are in the Southeast Wisconsin, Northeast Illinois area.....there is a ride on June 11th for the relay for life. It is in Gurnee, IL. Do a search for gurnee relay for life, it will come up. Just added will be a dedication board to sign up on and then they will read the names at the walk later that evening. Just some food for thought.
Sorry to hear about your loss,RUNT. It was not a fun experience for either of us. Here is a hug for ya.
I will get an email off to ya and we can start building an alias related to this cause.
Melanoma research anywhere is awesome. The bottom line is we need to find a way to prevent it. It is one of the more aggressive cancers. I am still thinking about this run and how to put it together. It would be great if it were a global thing. I just have not been able to focus on it yet. I will get there. Again, the more ideas the better. Good things don't happen over night. A lot of thought and planning is required to make it right.
Awesome idea Springer. I'm up in Canada, but if you run a round the states relay, count me in for a leg in the Northwest. I'm in a poker run for Cancer research tomorrow, it's such a worthy cause I'm always down for pitching in where I can.
Dane,
My sympathies with such an experience. I pray and give thanks that she is in peace now and you have such courage to continue on with such a positive note.
In that regard, one idea instead of a poker ride is a "letters" run. If you are going to have a run across multiple regions and places you might have a run where at each stop the riders have to pick a sentence from a list of sentences that all come from multiple letters from Melanoma Cancer patients, victims, family and friends. The one who collects all the correct sentences to a letter would be the winner.
I am just thinking of something that gives a voice to all those suffering with Melanoma.
Any how with even ten letters a paragraph or three you would have a sufficient pool of sentences to draw from for more than 5 stops.
If you want to just hang and brainstorm you can get me at springersoul69 at the mac company.
Maybe we can meet up on the road again sometime...
Peace and strength...you already bear hope..
Howdy dacotacee. I have a son that lives in Belton. I will be down there "possibly" for the 4th of July. Maybe we will see you.
I did some research and I found that there isn't any biker run for melanoma cancer, but a lot of bicycle runs for melanoma.
However, to support the cause for research and to find a cure, there is a web site that has the various color ribbons available for different awarenesses and they can be personalized.
A black ribbon symbolizes melanoma, sometimes orange is used as well.
The web site is personalizedcause dot com.
There is very little work being done for melanoma when compared to other types of cancers because there are not as many people to cure as the others. Breast cancer has over 100 different chemo's that can be used. Melanoma has six.
melanoma.org is a good website
Thanks for your help.
I will try the relay. I have never heard of one before. Maybe it can go around the boarders and up and down the coasts to circle the US symbolizing she irregular shape of a dangerous spot on the skin. hhhmmmmmmmmmmm This will take a lot of time to organize. gotta figure out how to do this. Each leg could be a different poker run.. But expanding from there, it would be a team relay where the last card from a local run is the first card given to your national teams' first rider in the next leg. That card makes the entire circle around the country. Record keeping would be a problem. Any suggestions? hmmmmmmm
I need some input here folks. This could be a lot of local runs but a team relay too. I know what I would call it. It will be the First Annual Jaunita V Gayle Memorial Run for Melanoma research. hmmmmmmmm... give me ideas please.
Thanks Seeme. I can find all kinds of rides for breast cancer, colon cancer, etc. But,one does it for Melanoma. That is what she had. I think I may just start one for melanoma and see if it will grow. I think it will be something different like a two day run that covers a couple of hundred miles each day. Not sure yet but I will come up with something different so it stands out. Maybe it could be a relay ride coast to coast or something.
